My Favorite Travel Partner!
So today I’m participating in a Travel Tuesday prompt that asks “Who is your favorite travel partner and what is your favorite trip with that person?”
Well, I immediately knew my answer. There are so many people that I’ve had amazing traveling experiences with, and who are great to travel with. But I think if I had to choose my #1 travel buddy it would be my friend Katie.
Katie and I studied abroad together in Innsbruck, Austria when we were just ripe little 19 year olds. That 6-week program was the longest I had ever been away from home at that point. It was the first time I had been to Europe.
And it was the biggest adventure of my life.
It was a life-changing experience that opened my eyes to how amazing traveling the world could be. I learned so much from that trip, and I still consider it the best experience of my life. And we went through that experience together.
Although we were good friends before we left, we became even closer during that trip, and still remain so to this day. We got lost together. We shared crazy nights out, random encounters, and language barriers together. Plus, we went through the same feelings and anxieties of being in a foreign country for the first time together. She’s the only one who truly knows how that summer shaped and formed my views of life and the world, and my senses of independence and adventure, because she experienced it too.
Since then, we’ve gone on two month-long European trips and have brought other friends along! During our 3 trips I’ve visited more places with her than anyone else! We are the perfect traveling duo because we want to do the same things, have the same budget, don’t need too much sleep, and want to make the most of our time. She lets me have control of the map and doesn’t mind that I have to stop and pee all the time. I let her stop and buy a Diet Coke 6 times a day and help her when she has various allergic reactions to European food and breaks out in hives.
Our travel relationship — it totally works.
Throughout the years we’ve been to the mountains of Austria, the beaches of Cinque Terre, the ruins of Rome, the castles of Prague, the foggy shores of Wales, the streets of London, the hills of Ireland, the canals of Amsterdam, the rooftops of Paris, the boats of the Bahamas, the parks of Sevilla, the markets of Barcelona, the clubs of Berlin, and many other amazing places together. And will hopefully go to many more!
